I am not ashamed of the fact that I love American Idol. I have been a diehard fan since the first finale, when Kelly Clarkson had this magical moment…

Yep, you remember that. AI has certainly gone through a roller-coaster of events throughout the years, from judge changes to rule changes and beyond. There have been plenty of amazing talents that have come from this life-changing show, but there have also been some not-so great ones. Whether you’re a fan of the show like me or just a person passing by this article, you can’t deny the fluctuations that happen on American Idol every season.

In this article, we look back at some of the most memorable moments on the show, just to get you in the mood to watch for seasons in the future. Enjoy!

Lookin’ like a fool with your pants on the ground!

I still sing this song in my head from time to time, and it is more than two years old. This guy is way too old to have actually auditioned for the show, but he certainly made his way into my heart. It’s a song that should reach out to the masses, or at least to the asses of America.

She passed away two days before the audition…

Wow, I didn’t remember how sad this story was until just now when I found the clip on YouTube. Made me cry on the spot. This man’s wife died of cancer two days before the audition, but he got a huge petition to perform on the show for “his lady.” He was clearly over the audition age, but they let him on and he melted my heart. Yep, still crying. If only I had some sort of clip to cheap me up…

She bangs! She bangs!

Who can forget William Hung? He probably had the craziest audition of all, but he became a start as a result of it. From what I remember, he actually landed a contract just to make gag voice records. I don’t know where he is now, but hopefully he is still making money from his Idol fame in some way.

Have you heard about Simon Cowell’s little affair with Paula?

This was one of the cheesiest skits in the history of the show, but it was definitely memorable. Simon kisses Paula. Big whoopity doo. You can watch the geezers make out if you want to. I just had to insert the vid for variety.

The nominees for Best Attitude are…

This may be my favorite part of any season of American Idol. Kara basically shows the infamous “bikini girl” that she sucks (because she did), and she ends by revealing the fact that she has a banging body too. It shut down bikini girl for sure, and it proved that she wouldn’t be landing any singing or fashion scholarships any time soon. It was the perfect climax to the fake awards they had going on for the night, and it was only a few seconds long.

Enough with the reminiscing though. I have an actual episode of American Idol that I need to watch on my DVR now. Thanks for tuning in! Can’t wait to meet up again.

I’ve got to be honest. I don’t like all poetry or all prose. However, when you find those nuggets of modern poets that are just amazing and reach into your soul with their words, it tends to be amazing and awe-inspiring.

Now, don’t get me wrong – there are a massive variety of different types of poems and poets, too, and various styles of poetry. A poetry snob – which I am definitely not – will be likely to frown upon free verse and use of profanity in poetry or topic matter that isn’t flowers and rainbows.

Then there’s the gritty, urban poetry like that found in Verses that Hurt. For me personally, this is a favorite and has been since my teen years. It connected with me and I with it, and that made all the difference. However, just like with anything else, if you read the reviews there will be some bad ones in there, people stating that the poems are trash or they’re too dark or too something else.

That’s part of the beauty of it, though.

People have all sorts of different tastes and show it in different ways… a lot of the time, when someone loves poetry, they don’t mean they love it period. They mean they love a specific style of poetry or a specific poet.

I enjoy my fair share of Sylvia Plath and Edgar Allen, too… but really, what I really, truly love, is reading raw and undiscovered poetry by writers who haven’t become famous but who have such a strong and beautiful message to share that it seeps into your soul from the pages your fingertips are touching and before you know it, you have a sense of it rather than an understanding.

Lisbeth Cheever-Gessaman states in an article: “The concept of beauty is an individual preference. This is why a poem that is dismissed by scholarly minds as technically mediocre, such as ‘Footprints’, can become a popular and frequently quoted work simply because it strikes a resonant chord rather than possesses any literary merit.”

To me, poetry is good if it strikes an emotional chord along with being either fun to read aloud or fun to read in my head. The flow is sensed, it is not dictated; the words are perceived as whatever I am conditioned to perceive them as; the poem as a whole either sounds good or doesn’t and, either way is appropriate for its own poems.

One of my favorite (and I think most beautiful) words is Broken. I also enjoy the words dislocate, fractured, shimmer, light, wrap, and cellophane. From the top of my head. This is the part where poets and writers learn how to become a chef, but their ingredients are words.

I love when things are described as colors and smells that you would normally not relate to the object being described.

“If I took a bite out of the clouds yesterday, they would’ve tasted like vanilla ice cream. But today? They’ll be black licorice. I don’t like black licorice.” (c)2012

Just like they say… “Beauty is in the eye of the beholder.” In this case, it’s in the perception/brain/impression/thought process instead of simply the eye. =)
